Nickent Golf Finishes 1-2 at Pete
Dye Classic,
Claims Victory in “Hybrid War”
 |
There were dramatics to
the highest degree at this week’s Pete Dye Classic on
the Nationwide Tour. One Nickent enthusiast
came down the 18th fairway with a two shot lead. His playing
partner, another Nickent user, was surging with three birdies
in the last four holes. They ended up in a Nickent vs. Nickent
playoff that moved both players into the top 30 on the Nationwide
Tour money list. (The winner moved from 149th to 27th
and the second place finisher from 26th to 11th)
Ten players using Nickent 3DX DC hybrids finished in the Top
12 at the Pete Dye Classic. With nine events left on the Nationwide
Tour, players are entrenched in a battle for one of the top
20 spots that will land them on the coveted PGA Tour.
Nickent has had its own battle going on in 2006. The original
three major hybrid makers have been battling it out on the
Nationwide Tour this year, with sometimes over 80% of the
field playing a hybrid golf club. Nickent has dominated the
competition in every major category, despite one Texas based
companies cash-induced efforts to slow Nickent’s ascension
to the top of the hybrid kingdom.
As proof that Nickent has won the so-called "hybrid war,"
the small Los Angeles based company points out that on the
2006 Nationwide Tour they are: #1
overall in hybrid clubs in play, #1
in Top 10 finishes, #1 in victories,
and #1 in top 20 players on the
money list currently playing their hybrid.

“I think what this shows is that more
of the best players are choosing our hybrids due to the extreme
performance of the golf clubs,” said Nickent CEO Michael
Lee. “These guys don’t want the marketing money.
They want to play on the PGA Tour.”
Two players came one step closer to that dream this week in
West Virginia.
“This feels great,” said the winner, who claimed
his first ever Nationwide Tour victory Sunday at the par-72
Pete Dye Golf Club. “This year has been a struggle.
I haven’t played poorly this year; I just don’t
have any good finishes to show for it. Hopefully this will
lead to big things for me.”
The runner-up at the Pete Dye Classic continues to be one
of the Tour’s hottest players, claiming six Top 10 finishes
in his last 11 events.
“There’s so many ways to get in the top 20,”
said the second place finisher. “ We’ll continue
to play every week, play as hard as we can … and see
where the dust settles.”
PGA Tour Update
The current # 2 player on the PGA Tour scored his 9th Top
Three finish of the year with his Nickent 3DX hybrid at the
WGC Bridgestone-Invitational. Nickent 3DX hybrids now lead
the PGA and Nationwide tours combined in total victories and
total Top 10 finishes in 2006.
