Nationwide Tour is Earning
Recognition; Helping Nickent Make Major Strides
June
21st, 2005 - The big story after 54
holes of the 105th U.S. Open was a “no name Nationwide
Tour player” at the top of the leader board. Quietly,
the Nationwide Tour has made itself into the # 1 most talented
tour next to its older brother, the PGA Tour. It has definitely
become the PGA Tour’s most productive training ground,
with half of last year’s winners on the PGA Tour starting
out as “no-names” from the Nationwide Tour.
Amid little fanfare, a former Nationwide Tour player and PGA
Tour rookie put together four solid rounds to finish in the
Top 15 of the U.S. Open Sunday. He used a 17-degree 3DX Ironwood
that he has been using since it was introduced to him on the
2004 Nationwide Tour. He finished last season third on the
Nationwide Tour money list with $313,000 and was one of five
players playing the 3DX to graduate to the PGA Tour. Half
way through the 2005 season, the player now sits 68th on the
PGA Tour money list with winnings of $621,718.
In August of 2004, Nickent Golf put all of their Tour focus
on getting their equipment in front of these so-called “blue-collar”
golfers. The strategy has paid off with staggering results.
At this week’s Knoxville Open, the 3DX Ironwood was
the # 1 most played hybrid on the Nationwide Tour for the
5th straight event. Four players using a 3DX Ironwood finished
in the Top 10 in Knoxville. This gives the 3DX an amazing
31 Top 10 finishes in the 23 events since the hybrid was introduced
to the tour. Currently, seven of the Top 25 Nationwide players
that will move up to the PGA Tour next year have put the 3DX
in the bag.
“We see the Nationwide Tour as the perfect proving ground
for Nickent,” said Nickent CEO Michael Lee. “It
has been great to get to know these great players while they
are developing or retooling their games. The Nationwide Tour
is great, because there is no tee up money and we can let
our products speak for themselves. We have had over 100 players
use our clubs on the PGA Tours. It all started here. It is
a great home for us and a great stepping stone to success
on the bigger stage.”
The 3DX is now the winningest hybrid on the Nationwide Tour
and PGA Tours in 2005. It has won on the PGA Tour, twice on
the Nationwide Tour and at the European Tour’s flagship
event. Just like the Nationwide players that go onto to be
superstars on the PGA Tour, Nickent has come a long way in
a short period of time….
