Nickent staff player Bryan DeCorso shot a final-round 3-under at the South Georgia Classic for his first career win on the Nationwide Tour Sunday.
DeCorso, a 36-year-old native of Ontario, Canada, fired a four-day total of 14-under 284, and picked up the largest paycheck of his career. DeCorso plays a 9 degree 4DX TSpec Driver, a 14 degree 4DX fairway wood, and 3DX DC and 3DX RC hybrids.
"I think this eclipses my career-best check by about $100,000," DeCorso said. DeCorso's earned $112,500 catapulting him in 4th on the Nationwide Tour money list and making him an early leader to earn one of the coveted 25 PGA TOUR cards that are up for grabs. Currently, 5 Nickent staff players are in top 25 on official money list, including # 3 Ewan Porter, # 4 DeCorso and # 9 Jeff Klauk.
"This puts me in great position to fulfill my dream of one day playing on the PGA TOUR," said DeCorso, who hit 54 of 72 greens in regulation at the 7,781-yard Kinderlou Forest County Club, the longest course ever played in Nationwide Tour history. His 4DX Driver helped him to finish 12th in driving distance with a 306 yard average.
It was the 2nd win for the 4DX Driver in 2008, and the 4th overall on the Nationwide Tour. The win marked the debut win for brand new 3DX RC Ironwood, the latest hybrid from Nickent, who pride themselves as the King of Hybrids™.
The 4DX Evolver "Interchangeable Shaft" Driver helped Nickent staffer David Mathis finish tied for sixth. Nickent had 16 4DX drivers (#3), 10 4DX fairway woods, and 31 hybrids (#2) in play in Georgia and 6 Nickent staff players finished in the Top 25 of the event. "I had no idea where I stood. I told my caddie to tell me on the 18th tee where I stood only if I needed a birdie to tie. I didn't want to know," said DeCorso.
His not wanting to know may have come from the tough road he had to take to get to that tee.
DeCorso, ranked No.750 in the world entering the tournament. He'd walked away from golf for almost a year, not touching a club while working in construction. He spent time as an on-course Golf Channel commentator. He played mini-tour events while caddying on the Nationwide Tour. In 2005, he submerged himself into the game again. He stayed close to home played one-day and two-day events on the year-round Moonlight Golf Tour. DeCorso said first-place prizes range from $100 to $4,000. He ended up earning full status on the Nationwide Tour at Q-school. Just a month ago, he decided to completely change his swing looking for a higher trajectory.
Last week, DeCorso posted a fourth-place finish the Henrico County Open and carried that momentum into this week. Now he can carry the momentum of his first professional win into the rest of his career, as he sits comfortably in the Top 5 on the Nationwide Tour money list.
"It's this kind of feel good story that keeps our focus," said Nickent Director of Marketing Jason Maloney. "Bryan represents the everyday golfer and all the struggles and sacrifices it takes to be a champion in this game. The fact that Nickent could be a huge part of his transformation into a champion is exactly why we are involved so heavily with the Nationwide and PGA Tours. We have the equipment to help improve everyone's game, and this win once again proves to us that we are in it for all the right reasons." |
