The Nationwide Tour has been the heart of Nickent Golf's tour operation for the last four years. Last year, the company had a stable of 17 staff players on the Nationwide Tour, who put dozens of sets of Nickent irons into play. In 2008, players will get the first look at two new iron sets specifically designed with them in mind. Both sets were designed by Nickent's master designer, John Hoeflich, who wanted to give players two traditional looking iron designs that offer increased forgiveness, distance and feel without sacrificing the playability better players' seek.
The 4DX Pro Iron is a forged cavity-back designed to be "Golf's Most Playable Player's Iron", while the 4DX CB Iron is a higher flying, more forgiving model with a little more offset. Both will be sold at retail as hybrid/iron combo sets featuring the tour-preferred 4DX Ironwoods in place of the 3 and 4 irons. The 4DX Ironwood recently won the Golf Magazine Hybrid Clubtest, beating competitors like Taylor Made, Adams Golf and PING in the process.*
4DX CB Hybrid/Iron Combo Set
The 4DX CB Iron is a long-hitting iron with a large cavity back for extra forgiveness. Its thin top line with just the right amount offset make it the perfect game improvement iron for the consistent player. The large, perimeter-weighted head represents a new shape for Nickent. The new design positions the center of gravity away from the face and low in the club head to promote a high launch and less spin.
Twenty grams of weight were saved from the face and redistributed into one tungsten-polymer fused insert on the back of the clubhead. The XW Insert is located directly behind the face to absorb vibration at impact, reducing a majority of the shock and harsh feel associated with irons that use hard plugs or screws used to lower the center of gravity. Discretionary weight was moved into the weight plugs from the face, creating a higher COR to promote faster ball speed and more power.
The iron set will sell for $599 in True Temper steel shafts and $699 in UST SR3 graphite shafts. The set will include two 4DX Ironwoods, which retail for $179 per club, in the set.
4DX Pro Hybrid/Iron Combo Set
With their first forged iron, Nickent combines the classic good looks of a blade iron with the forgiving features of a perimeter-weighted iron. It was designed with thin top line, less offset and a straight leading edge, while featuring a large cavity back for improved forgiveness.
The 4DX Pro features a tungsten-polymer insert (XW Insert), which takes the vibration out from impact, reduces shock and vibration and gives this cavity back iron a "muscle back" feel off the face. The XW Insert allows for versatility in custom fitting options (+/- 4 degrees of loft and lie) and provides a soft, responsive feel. Using the XW Insert vs. a metal plug gives Nickent the flexibility to move around significant amounts of weight without losing feel.
The new 4DX is the new version of the Tour- proven 3DX Pro Iron (over 20 players on Nationwide Tour chose the 3DX Pro Irons), but there have been significant shape changes resulting in even better performance. Tests show the 4DX Pro is significantly longer than the original design.
Two of the award winning 4DX Ironwood hybrids will come with the set that will street price at $799 graphite and steel. It features the Nippon 1180 shaft, designed specifically for Nickent by Nippon Golf Shafts using unique proprietary materials and a specialized heat-treatment process. The N.S. Pro 1180GH iron weighs in at 118 grams and is constant weighted in the 3-iron through pitching wedge.
